Weight?

So... again, after talking with Terk, I was able to come op with an idea of sorts for my project. I'll need different sizes of rope (boat and horse rope... maybe some mountain climbing rope) and make a performance piece based on the idea of different weights of stories that accumulate on one's soul... in this case my body. (Body being my arms or legs)

Does this mean I should find something to wear that works with the piece???

I always feel like I'm taking things to seriously. I really just want my art pieces to seem playful and I don't know if I portray that idea in my art.

Getting the "HANG" of...

So, I've found the best material to make monkey's fist knots and I've been practicing making them this weekend. I have made a few so far that have been attached to a few nooses, some single knots and others with multiple knots on one cord.
I guess I'm still trying to come up with what exactly I'm going to do with them. I was thinking of maybe making a hat since it is the mind which is key in creating stories.

Monkey's Fists

So... I have finally decided that I want to do something with Yarn or rope/cords. I also want to try an incorporate the idea of storytelling.

I have been looking at how to tie different knots and came across this one type call 'the monkey's fist'. I think I would like to put something into these knots and maybe have them hanging. It's been frustration in not knowing what I want to make... but hopefully with these sort of guide lines I will able to work and further what I want to actually accomplish in this project.

A while back when I was trying to solve a riddle for my table top RPG session with my friends, I was lead to this link. It defines the Australian Aborigines songlines which were/are stories passed down that act as a map which enables them to navigate through even an endless and featureless desert.

Spokane

Went to Spokane for the day. My friend and I went shopping and I was able to get my hair dyed blue, purple and red. ^ ^
When we were at the mall, we found that in one of it's restrooms was a stall like no other we have ever seen before. It was large and it held within it's space two toilets. O.O;;
We pondered over the existence of two toilets in one stall and frankly we couldn't really come up with anything besides maybe that they were in the middle of fixing the wall between the two toilets (which isn't likely because it only had one door) or that they were waiting on materials so as to make one stall into two.
In any case, it was my friend who stumbled across this find. She found that being in the stall felt as if she was invading someone's privacy and so was unable to make use of that stall. It made me wonder how many other people had felt the same why when entering that privet space made for two.

Black Swan

Today I went to see the movie "Black Swan" and was blown away by it's story. By the end of the show I felt overwhelmed into a state of shock from all the different emotions that movie force me to go through. It was a great movie... but I can tell that I will not be able to watch it again anytime soon.
I would suggest if one is willing to see something so... intense, that they do so while it is still in the theater.

Later I started thinking. The character throughout the movie was actually taking on the archetypes of both the Swan Queen and her evil twin.
She had so many other problems going on around her, both mentally and physically, that she forced herself to the breaking point in order to keep her lead role and make her performance "perfect". In doing so, the main character shattered what little sanity she had and started to lose her true self, the Swan Queen, to her evil and insane twin sister.

I can not do the film any justice in trying to describe how dark it felt and how close the morbidly real fairy tales can connect and predict the lives of some people. Of course I've always known this, but just seeing "Black Swan" reminded me of that sort of connection fairy tales have with the psyche of humans.

Sorry if this fails to make any sense to you my reader. As I briefly mentioned, it was an experience that kinda shook me up a bit and words are kind of failing me.

More Ideas

So I talked to Turk today about the whole Bio-project thing. It might be that I'm putting the horse behind the cart while thinking too hard on the Bio when I should be thinking more on my connections project. However, it might just be that I am making connections right now by thinking through the Bio... which I guess might not count since I'm not actually working on any real project yet. *shrugs* I might just be over thinking things.

I still kinda like my idea of doing my bio on the character of "The Little Mermaid" even though the idea has been giving me mixtures of anxious and self conscious feelings from choosing something so seemingly childish. After talking with Turk, who apparently was in the same boat I am in now, has suggested that I read "The Mythic Image" by Joseph Campbell to see if his writings can help guide me around my love for different Archetypes in fairy tales such as the little mermaid.

I have met 3 people who smiled/commented on my fox had today. My urge to make a ton of animal ear hats have increased again.

New Bio Idea...

I've been thinking a bit on my bio choice.

I thought a lot about who has influenced me in my life and who I would want to think like while creating an item. When I was younger, and well into my early college years, I wanted to be an animator because of how much I loved cartoons. The characters and stories had a huge impact on me which I still carry with me today. Especially the works of Walt Disney Studios and Hayao Miyazaki. This got me thinking of one character/story in specific that these influential people or studios created versions of... and that was Hans Christian Andersen's story of "The Little Mermaid". (Walt Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' & Hayao Miyazaki's 'Ponyo')

I would like to think through my project as the main character of "The Little Mermaid." (Ariel/Ponyo/or whatever her name really was in the story)

I will do some more research of the real story and study the differences and similarities of this character in the different story and try to pull forth something to guide the choices I will make going forward.

Artist Bio...

At the time being I think I'll look at the artist Laurie Simmons and her pieces. So far her way of thinking is intriguing and reminds me of when I was a kid playing with dolls and using my imagination to make item come to life with something 'more' about them.

Tracks in the Snow

I saw three different kinds of animal tracks in the snow of my back yard today. A raccoon's, a rabbit's and my roommate's outdoor cat Meow Meow. I always wondered at where these kinds of tracks would take me if I could follow them.
